How would a Chinese Architecture inspired stool look like?

Synopsis

The prompt of this project was to design a stool or stool from a single 48’ x 48’ x 1/2’ plywood board using CNC. 

A Chinese architecture inspired CNC stool, designed to be placed in modern style living rooms.

Inspiration

Inspired by the “Dougong” joint which is used for the construction of traditional Chinese architecture. The Dougong is designed to create structural integrity when weight is applied from the top through only intersecting wooden components.
















Prototype

The model is a half scale model made from 1/4 inch plywood cut by the laser cutter. It is constructed solely from wood joints without any adhesive, allowing it to be disassembled .
